This is my Asatru profile site. Asatru is the native faith of northern Europe before the advent of Christianity. Practiced broadly in points east of the Rhine, north of the Danube, west of the Vistula - It includes Scandanavia and then some. In modern times this means places where any Germanic language family is spoken - Icelandic through Swedish for the northern brand, English and Afrikaans through German for the western branch, and none of the gothic languages have survived in the eastern branch. Because of historical migrations there are now a reasonable number of Spanish speaking Asatru across the length of Latin American.

Some time around late 1986 or early 1987 I had a dream that Odin appeared. Though I was not Asatru at the time I had no doubt whatsoever who it was. He pointed out to me that I was able to handle my current life problems on my own and then told me to follow. It wasn't even a word but a look that I completely understood to mean that one word. No details at all about who or what to follow. I spent about a year pondering if this had been made up out of my own sub-conscious or it is was a mythical vision. I decided it was a vision and I've followed ever since. I follow his whole clan - the Aesir, Vanir and allied wights though I spend nearly all of my attention on the Aesir. I feel I am the better man for having chosen to live my life following the Aesir.

The term UPG stands for "Unconfirmed/Unusual Personal Gnosis". That I should follow is my own UPG. I take it seriously for a list of reasons - It's aimed at me alone so I have no charter to recruit. It is now 20 years since I decided to follow the invitation and the effect is still just as strong. It's consistent with some occurrences in the sagas and does not contradict established lore.
